In the battle against heartburn, the overuse of over-the-counter (OTC) products is a major contributor to heartburn. One that’s been around for decades is Nexium. While it’s popular, it’s not a good idea to use it for more than one purpose. If you do use it for a couple of weeks or even more, you could be getting heartburn for a couple of bucks. The idea is to reduce the chance of heartburn and to prevent the heartburn from recurring even if you don’t have heartburn at all. While it may seem like it’s not a good idea to use OTC products for longer than 24 hours, it’s really not. OTC drugs like Nexium are designed to help people get enough of the active ingredient (esomeprazole) in their diet. The fact that they work so well in treating people with heartburn means that people are more likely to get long-term relief. Here are a few things you can do to prevent getting a heartburn:

  1. Stop taking the Nexium-based OTC products:If you’re on a high-dose (5-mg) of the active ingredient (esomeprazole), you may be at an increased risk of getting a heartburn. This is because the drug may not be absorbed into your bloodstream in the first place. If you take it for a long time, you may have to take another medicine to get it to stop working. You may need to take other medications to get the same benefit. Talk with your doctor to see if other treatments are the best for you.

  2. Avoid OTC drugs:There are OTC drugs that contain drugs that can interact with. It’s best to avoid taking these drugs with OTC products because they can make people’s blood sugar increase.

  3. Consider taking medication with OTC products:Oral antacids can cause an upset stomach. Taking them along with OTC antacids can increase the risk of stomach bleeding. If you’re taking OTC antacids and you take them with other medications, you may need to take a second medication before taking OTC antacids. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist to determine the best medication for you.

  4. Do not use the OTC products:Some OTC products contain drugs that can interact with Nexium. These drugs can affect the way Nexium works.

  5. Stop taking the OTC products:If you’re on a high-dose (5-mg) of the active ingredient (esomeprazole), you may be at a higher risk of getting a heartburn. If you take it for a long time, you may have to take another medicine to get the same benefit.

  6. Take the OTC products with OTC drugs:In general, people who use OTC products should take them as directed by a doctor. They may need to be on lower doses of the drug, or they may need to take another medicine before taking the OTC products.

  • Avoid the OTC drugs:People who have heartburn who use OTC products should avoid taking these drugs because they can decrease the chance of heartburn getting worse. This includes people who are on a higher-dose (5-mg) of the drug. They may also need to take other medications before they use the OTC products.

  • Make sure you know about the OTC products:If you take them with other medications, you may need to take a second medication before taking OTC antacids.

  • Do not stop taking the OTC products:Some OTC products contain drugs that can affect Nexium.
